Memorial Day
A child wrapped in her mother's arms
Asks a question innocent enough
"Why do we need a Memorial day?"
Her mother thinks for a second
What could she say to the fragile daughter's mind?
"So we can think of Daddy" she says
"But I think of Daddy all the time."
The mother smiles sadly
"Today the rest of the world thinks of him as well."
Memorial is not a day or a thought
Its a feeling that shouldn't be missed
For those who have passed
And those lucky enough to be around
May our graciousness always be around
Think of these heroes as you wash your hands
When you cook your meals or cheer in the stands
So not one day a year but seven days a week
Think of the men who made us free
A child wrapped in her mother's arms
Asks a question innocent enough
"Why do we need a Memorial day?"
Her mother thinks for a second
What could she say to the fragile daughter's mind?
"So we can think of Daddy" she says
"But I think of Daddy all the time."
The mother smiles sadly
"Today the rest of the world thinks of him as well."
Memorial is not a day or a thought
Its a feeling that shouldn't be missed
For those who have passed
And those lucky enough to be around
May our graciousness always be around
Think of these heroes as you wash your hands
When you cook your meals or cheer in the stands
So not one day a year but seven days a week
Think of the men who made us free
For a father
Like a shadow
A ghost
Of who you were
Can’t sit here everyday
Knowing you’re slipping away
I can’t stand by and watch
The sands are slipping
Through the hourglass
They say
Pain can be a beautiful thing
But I can’t find the joy
How can I escape
If I can’t run away
Its been too long
I can't sit here
Watching you fade away
Sometimes
Need to vent
But this is so much more
My inspiration
My only light
Is that I won’t be as foolish as this
How could you
Find help
Please stay around
A little longer
I can’t lose you yet
I’m still young and
Its not fair to me
That others got To know you better than this
I’ll take my
Unspoken words and rest
There’s nothing
I can do for you
I’ve tried it all
You pushed me out
Wish I could leave
This time for good
A ghost
Of who you were
Can’t sit here everyday
Knowing you’re slipping away
I can’t stand by and watch
The sands are slipping
Through the hourglass
They say
Pain can be a beautiful thing
But I can’t find the joy
How can I escape
If I can’t run away
Its been too long
I can't sit here
Watching you fade away
Sometimes
Need to vent
But this is so much more
